NSW Health has confirmed that free flu vaccinations will be available to all NSW residents over the age of 6 months from 1 June 2022 to boost immunity for the winter season.

From 1 to 30 June 2022, free flu shots will be available at:

  • GPs for everyone aged 6 months+
  • Pharmacies for everyone aged 5 years +

This decision follows the upsurge of flu cases presenting at Emergency Department of government hospitals and also impacting on the hospital staffing level with many employees unable to go to work due to sickness from flu.

This coincides with rising concern regarding cases of new variants.  NSW Health said Omicron's BA.2 sub-lineage was responsible for most new cases in the state.

However, the proportion of specimens identified as BA.4 and BA.5 has increased in recent weeks, with BA.5 increasing more than BA.4.

The figures of cases reported yesterday, June 5 showed a reduction well below the usual 10,000 count.

Health officials recommend the wearing of mask where social distancing is not possible and continue with observance of precautious by washing and disinfecting hands and holding get togethers in open areas.
