Dr Cen Amores, President of Auburn Small Community Organisation Network (ASCON) Inc announced that ASCON has recently successfully secured funding of $30,000 from the NSW Government for its Covid-19 Emergency Food Assistance Project. She said that this is a partnership project of ASCON and the Auburn Youth Centre (AYC).

Food hampers worth $60 can be picked up starting on Friday, the 22nd of October up to the 17th of December from 1-4pm. The target recipients are young couples with 0 - 23 year old children who are still living with their parents and residing in any of the suburbs included in the Cumberland, Parramatta, Strathfield, Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government Areas. The list of suburbs in the nominated LGAs are shown at the bottom of this article.

To qualify, interested families should forward to Cen Amores the following details:

*name of  member picking up the food bag

*suburb and LGA where they are residing

* number of children and their respective ages.

This information is required in the preparation of the Acquittal Report to be provided to the funding body, upon completion of the project.

The venue for pick up is at Auburn Youth Centre, located at Wyatt Park, Church Street, Lidcombe (next to the swimming pool, 5-8 minute walk) from Lidcombe Train Station. Free parking is available in front and beside the Centre. For the safety of all qualified recipients, face masks must be worn, social distancing observed, temperature taken and sign in through QR or manually, as required.

The first lot of packing was undertaken on October 21 by the following volunteers who responded to the call to help out:  Cen and Ruben Amores, Joe Caballero, Zeny Piosik, Jean Marcel Malliate, Gloria Papaioannou and Violi Calvert.

The packing was under the supervision of Kate Mason, AYCafe and Catering Coordinator and in-charge of food hamper ordering. Cen Amores as President of ASCON looks after the  recruitment of volunteers to do the packing of hampers, groceries and fresh fruits and vegetables, and in-charge of recruiting families from diverse communities who are interested to receive free hamper bags.
