In the latter part of 2019, “Tala” a song by the Philippine’s popstar princess Sarah Geronimo went viral with the Tala Dance challenge enjoining all her fans to post their moves following the singer’s video of the song.

As of this month, the song has entered the U.S. Billboard Charts taking the number 12 spot. This was announced in January 17 as having debuted on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart for the best-selling international songs based on sales data compiled by Nielsen Music. This was a perfect precursor to the “dance flash mob for a cause” held the following day at the Rizal Park.

“Tala Para sa Taal” was organised by the Popsters, Sarah Geronimo’s avid fans to creatively repurpose their idol’s hit song as a meaningful to be remembered through the ages. For one hundred (100) pesos, fans and non-fans alike can dance to the song and post it on their social media channels as part of the #TalaDanceChallenge. Three hundred people came to the event from the six hundred who registered online to do the challenge. Including pledges of one thousand (1,000) and five-thousand pesos (5,000) the final donation reached sixty thousand pesos (60,000) according to the event organisers.

The song continues its spread throughout Asia with KPop superstars, Momoland accepting the Tala dance challenge. Other celebrities who busted their moves were Internet Superstar and TV Host Maine Mendoza with boyfriend Arjo Atayde, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, Parokya ni Edgar lead singer Chito Miranda.
