In this ongoing pandemic, aside from the people from the events and hospitality industries, some of the most affected people are the performers, artists, and designers. Not for multi-awarded design genius, John Herrera who has continued to bring the Philippines pride by winning another international competition with his mask design.

The competition was spearheaded by Italian fashion magazine Deshabillé in partnership with the Association for Integration of Women (AIW), a non-profit, relief organization assisting migrant women in Italy. The competition was open to the global community of fashion designers to compete to create the winning design for a comfortable, cute and functional face mask. The winning mask design will be sewn by AIW’s community and sold to benefit AIW’s ongoing migrant training and support programs.

“I started designing face masks in April, after being asked by Deshabillé magazine in Milan to join a competition to help a women’s organisation there. I luckily won the DESIGN CATEGORY. There is no price as it is for a good cause and I take pride in it. Now I continue to design face masks to make sure my staff have steady income in these tough times” says John from his post on Facebook.

John Herrera, a Vogue-featured Filipino designer now based in the UK won the coveted Britain’s Top Designer award in 2017 and was the featured designer in Sydney for the Tuloy Po Kayo (TPK) Fashion Expo in 2019. He travels around the world to cater to his global clientele but is now based in the UK to continue his design exploits where he won his award in 2017.
