The Commission on Appointments (CA) has confirmed the nominations and ad interim appointments of two ambassadors and 14 officers of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

One of the nominations endorsed to the CA plenary was for  Sydney's current Consul General the Hon. Ezzedin Hamdi Tago, who was appointed as Chief of Mission, Class II, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Arab Republic of Egypt with concurrent jurisdiction over the Republic of Djibouti, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the State of Eritrea, and the Republic of the Sudan.

The Australian Filipina contacted to send congratulatory wishes to ConGen Tago and glad to share his kind comments about his appointment:


" I thank the Secretary and President for their continued confidence and this nomination, and for the Commission on Appointments for the approval granted on Wednesday 2 June during the CA hearings.

ConGen Tago has extensive experience as a diplomat and other qualifications.  He has the additional unique attributes for the position that of being born in Egypt,  as well as being proficient in Arabic. 

He studied in the United States. He joined the DFA in 1995 as a casual employee and passed the foreign service exam in 1996.

His career path includes being assigned in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Jakarta, Indonesia, as a junior officer.  Thereafter he took the role of Consul General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and eventually, he became an ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 2011 to 2016.   He assumed as Philippine Consul General in Sydney on 22 August 2019.  

ConGenTago is a recipient of several awards from the Office of the President and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
