RECENT AWARDS

The beauty of many places in the Philippines, its culture and people have been receiving recognition in the world.  In the recently concluded 29th World Travel Awards (WTA) held in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam it won three major awards.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) shared the good news that the country was hailed in these awards, as:

* Asia’s Leading Dive Destination for the fourth consecutive year since 2019, edging Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

*Asia’s Leading Beach Destination for the sixth time winning ahead of India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam

*Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction with the Walled City of Intramuros in Manila reclaiming this position in this category.  The city emerged on top against Cambodia's Angkor Temples, India's Taj Mahal, China's Great Wall, The Forbidden City, and Terracotta, Japan's Tokyo Imperial Palace, among others.

In addition to the World Travel Awards, the Philippines also won back-to-back wins in the Condé Nast Traveler (CNT) 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards.  The world-renowned Island of Boracay was awarded the Top Island in Asia. Of the Top Ten Islands, Palawan also ranked eighth. The Philippines was also awarded one of the Top Countries in the World ranking 30th.

Speaking about these awards, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco commented: “We are extremely grateful for these international awards for the Philippines based on the opinion and experience of travelers from all over the world. As we usher in this new era of travel post-pandemic, our focus is to continue building confidence towards travel to the country by ensuring improvement in ease of access, prioritizing tourist safety and convenience, and encouraging sustainable tourism practices.”

Recently she also signified the DOT’s intention to diversify the country’s tourism product portfolio to include Arts Tourism as a promising addition. Additionally, the Department is further developing the country’s existing tourism products, including dive and marine sports tourism, education, health and cruise tourism, food and gastronomy tourism, culture and heritage tourism, MICE tourism, and halal tourism.

It's more fun in the Philippines!!!   Let us all visit our country of birth and invite our friends and colleagues to visit and experience the hospitality and beauty of the country!   But first, enjoin all to help the Philippines win another set of awards by voting for it in the nominated categories in this year’s Wanderlust Travel Magazine competition.
