At the media briefing at mid-day today, June 12, 2020 the Prime Minister announced that the National Cabinet has agreed to move towards Step 3 of COVID-19 easing controls and restrictions.  

The key elements included: removing the cap of 100 to venues, instead capacity would be governed by the 4square metre distance requirement; outdoor cultural and sporting events to be at 25% capacity of venues up to 40,000 seats; events would have to be ticketed and seated; planning for larger venues is to be finalised; opening of state borders is encouraged with the target date of mid-July; opening to return of international students subject to state border opening and quarantine requirements.

The Prime Minister,  Scott Morrison, also highlighted that the National Cabinet is replacing the Council of Australian Govenments [COAG] has now discussed which subcommittees will need to be forrmed.

In the meantime, NSW Premier, Gladys Berjeklian, has announced that from tomorrow, 13 June, restrictions are eased to allow:



* fitness gyms, pilates, yoga and dance studios can open with 10 people per class and 100 in indoor venues;

* community centres and their facilities can open;

* some indoor recreational facilities including pools and saunas can open with restricted number;

* tattoo and massage parlours can open with up to 10 people;*the one person per 4 sqm rule needs to be observed at all times;

* up to 20 visiting family and friends

* community sport can re-start from July 1.

The government and the courts have advised against attending any protest rallies due to the risk of community transmission.
