At today's COVID-19 update attended by the NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, it was announced that NSW has recorded one new case on among more than 32,500 people tested in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

The state hasn’t recorded such a low number since July 3, when no new cases were reported.

The people was warned though that the virus is still circulating in the community and that everyone should still take precautions seriously.

Dr Chant reiterated:
"To help stop the spread of COVID-19, if you are unwell, stay in, get tested, isolate; wash our hands regularly; bring hand sanitizer when you go out; keep your distance at 1.5metres between yourself and others; where social distancing cannot be observed, always wear a mask."

In the meantime bus drivers have threatened to go on strike if the requirement to wear mask on public transport was not made mandatory.   There is talk that commuters can be fined or denied boarding the public transport if they don't wear masks and/or face shield.

Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews was still cautious to report that Victoria recorded 179 new cases, which is the first time the daily statistic has fallen below 200 since July 13. The number of deaths was also a single digit of 9, which takes the state's death toll to 385. Nine more people have died of COVID-19, taking Victoria’s death toll to 385.

The Prime Minister Scott Morrison reiterated what he had expressed in the past that the ongoing hard border closures across the country, of deciding to open or close them lie solely with the states and territories.

Mr Morrison said it was "a welcome decision" from the Queensland government to ease restrictions for northern NSW residents hoping to access health services in the south of Queensland.

He expressed optimism that initiatives implemented by the states and territories of testing, tracing and outbreak containment are producing good results.

He also announced that a further $171M will be earmarked for aged care response.
