At a media briefing two days ago during her visit at the upper Hunter Region, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian stated that she was “incredibly proud” that New South Wales taken the right path of not adopting a narrow definition of what an 'essential worker' was during the pandemic.

She stated: “Our definition was if you’ve got a job and you can have a safe worksite, you’re essential to New South Wales, you’re essential to our communities,” she said.

“I just wanted to make that point very loudly and clearly because without that partnership with community and business and industry our government wouldn’t be able to have brought us to the position we are today".

Ms Berejiklian also thanked the Upper Hunter communities for remaining positive and doing great work to help keep the state's economy running throughout the pandemic during her visit to the region ahead of the May by-election.

“We know that many industries in this community kept going,” she said.

"As a government we were very keen to make sure industries like construction and mining and a whole other range of industries weren’t forced to shut down, even during our darkest days of the pandemic.

This morning (April 16), however the NSW Premier spoke about the woman who died after having a COVID-19 vaccination last Friday at her GP, after the doctor assessed that the risk value was worth her getting the vaccine.  The woman who died days after getting the AstraZeneca COVID 19 vaccine had serious health issues.

The 48-year-old received the vaccine last Friday at her GP, after the doctor assessed that the risk value was worth her getting the jab.  She died at John Hunter Hospital yesterday after developing blood clots.  It was reported that the woman was not a frontline health worker, but was included in the 1B rollout category due to her medical issues.  The health authorities are currently investigating the cause of death, and determine whether there is a direct effect of the vaccine to the blood clots that caused her death.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian this morning offered her sympathies to the woman's family as she waits for advice from health authorities in the meantime that the Therapeutic Goods Administration is seeking further clinical information and test results.

"In the meantime we just extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones during this difficult time," she said.
