Today, February 26, 2021 marks 40 days since the last case of community transmission in NSW.

NSW Premier Gladys Berjeklian  agreed to the restrictions being officially eased from midnight.   The changes will allow for more people to be permitted inside households, while weddings will look a little more normal with singing and dancing being allowed.  However, only a maximum of 30 people are allowed to be on the dance floor at the one time.

Up to 50 guests can now be welcomed into home and private gatherings.

Gym classes can now have 50 people, and patrons will also be allowed to stand up while having a drink at outdoor venues.

Cinemas can operate at 100%.

Singing is allowed at places of worship but need to wear mask and observe the 4sqm rule.

Further good news is that from next month, that rule is expected to be relaxed even further.

The Premier announced on Wednesday that:
"From March 17 if everything goes well, in three weeks' time, you will be able to stand up and have a drink indoors as well as outdoors."

She warned though the restrictions could be wound back at any time depending on the situation with the community transmission.

"We have to be as vigilant as ever," she said.

"We have to make sure we do not become complacent, that we stick to the COVID restrictions and rules to make sure that all of us stay protected."

Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant also reiterated that venues need to must continue the use the QR code system.  She advised that  no-one should be allowed to visit into households if they were unwell.

The Premier and the NSW government officials have had their vaccination shots on the first day of the roll out on Monday, February 22, 2021.

In the meantime, Ms Berjeklian has expressed anger over the rejection by Queensland government to pay their share of the quarantine expenses incurred for Queensland residents.

Media reports showed Queensland's Deputy Premier tears up the tax invoice for the $30million his state owes NSW for the thousands of Queenslanders who used the NSW hotel quarantine.
