The number of COVID-19 cases in NSW has reached a new record – 177 new infections – prompting the state government to extend the lockdown and change the rules again to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

The stay-at-home orders for residents living in Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour would now go another four weeks, ending on Friday midnight, August 27.

There will be new measures, however, as reported on the ABC, namely:

  • Shopping limited to less than 10km distance to place of residence
  • Year 12 students to return to classrooms from August 16, but with conditions
  • Construction allowed, but with new conditions and zero contact with residents
  • Single people able to nominate someone to be allowed inside their residence
  • More financial support for businesses and individuals

As of this morning, July 28, the local government areas (LGAs) of Parramatta, Campbelltown and Georges River are now subjected to an Authorised Workers Order. This means that residents can only leave these areas for work purposes.

Meanwhile, construction workers who live in any of the following LGAs - Cumberland, Canterbury-Bankstown, Blacktown, Liverpool, Fairfield, Parramatta, Georges River and Campbelltown – are still not permitted go to work premises.

But in LGAs not included in this list, construction is allowed as long as there is zero contact with residents.

Tradies, including cleaners, outside the eight LGAs will only be able to work if they can do so with zero contact with residents.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian is calling on more individuals to get vaccinated, with new rules allowing younger people, including Year 12s, to get an AstraZeneca vaccine.

If you are a Filipino residing in NSW, there’s a $50 cash prize for answering this community survey on the take-up of vaccination in the Filipino community in NSW. Let's fight COVID-19 together. Survey extended to Sunday August 8. Thanks https://forms.gle/CZ4jPEkyepMjZFDbA
