Today, 19th of June, Filipinos around the world held various events to celebrate the 159th birth anniversary of Dr Jose P. Rizal, the Philippine National Hero. The events were conducted in ways that complied with the restrictions due to the pandemic.
The Philippine Consulate General in Sydney, led by Consul General Ezzedin Tago, Consul Melanie Diano and Consul Manny Guzman, held a flower offering celebration at Sentro Rizal in the Consulate's offices, which was livestreamed in the Consulate's Facebook page. This enabled the members of the Filipino-Australian community to join in from their homes.
In his brief talk, Consul General Tago acknowledged the various events conducted by the chapters of the Knights of Rizal and the Rizal Park Movement. He enjoined all to watch celebrations and read about the national hero especially this weekend which he hopes "to spark a fire of patriotism and nationalism, as we strive to be united during this time of COVID-19."

The Order of the Knights of Rizal, the group created to honour and uphold the ideals of Dr Rizal and chartered under Philippine Republic Act 646, spearheaded the celebration of Dr Rizal's 159th birthday in different parts of the world. Locally, the KOR Australia, New Zealand & Oceania Region, Eastern Australia Area conducted the following flower offering and ceremonies:

*Rizal Park 1pm, Rooty Hill (Hosted by the Sydney Chapter)
*Ashfield Park 2pm, Ashfield (Hosted by the Western Sydney Chapter)
*Rizal Park, 11.00am Rosemeadow (Hosted by the Rizal Park Movement of Campbelltown)
Representatives of the Kababaihang Rizalista Inc, the female counterpart of the Knights of Rizal, namely Ladies Violi Calvert, Judith Del Prado, Councillor Linda Geronimo-Santos (adviser) and Consul Melanie Diano (adviser) attended the Ashfield and Rooty Hill ceremonies.
