The handball world is abuzz about Bevan Calvert, sealing a spot in handball history by scoring two goals in the German Bundesliga game of Champion Team THW Kiel.  This was in the game played against the team's arch competitor Flensburg on October 18, 2020.

The thirty four year old Fil-Aussie handball star who was at the bench to support the team was put on court at seven minutes to the finish of the game.  In that space of time, he managed to show what he has got.

The THW Kiel match report [as Google translated from German] stated:

” Bevan Calvert  at the age of 34 celebrating the first goal in the LIQUI MOLY Handball Bundesliga: When he scored at 27:19, not only were the fans happy, the entire Kiel bench also cheered happily. And when new signing Oskar Sunnefeldt stole the ball in defense, then played Calvert spectacularly and the Australian scored to 29:21, the whole of Kiel celebrated one of the clearest and most sovereign derby victories in recent years.

The local newspaper Kieler Nachstrichen also commented:
" The rest was Kieler Volontär exercises: worth seeing speed counterattacks and two goals of the Australian player Bevan Calvert - the first time in the first division of Bundesliga for the 34 years Ager, who was very happy after the final whistle.

"He said: felt fantastic; one moment of my highest emotion on my career!“

There were several postings in social media from coaches, co-handballers and handball followers in Australia and several places in the world. On Bevan's father John's posting, some of the comments included those from two of his former coaches:

Coach in the Men's National Team, Taip Ramadani:
" It was great to see, John. Two brilliant goals. And he is looking fitter and faster than he's ever been. He has created Aussie handball history - First Aussie in Champions League, first to win the German Super Cup and now the first in Germany's Bundesliga! Proud. "

Russell Garnett , Coach in the NSW Team:
" So impressive Bev. I still remember the first training day on the grass field at Turramurra High. He had so much potential then and he has always had the determination to excel. Many players have travelled from Oz to have a crack at the big leagues, Bevan Calvert, is the first to reach the pinnacle with one of the best teams in the world. I am super proud."

Bevan sealed further his spot in handball history by subsequently scoring a goal in the Champions League in the game against Aalborg, contributing to the winning score of 23 : 31 for THW Kiel.

The Australian Filipina is equally proud of our Fil-Aussie champ and wishes him continued success in what he sets out to do now and after handball.
