One of Australia’s leading experts in the associations industry, John Peacock attended the M.I.C.E Conference 2011 held in Cebu, one of the Philippines’ popular holiday and business destinations.

As general manager of Associations Forum Pty Ltd, John attended as a guest speaker and brought with him a wealth of associations industry knowledge and experience to the 300 delegates that attended the major event located within the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

The Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions/Events (M.I.C.E) Conference was organised by the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Promotions Board to train and motivate participants in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry in The Philippines.

“It was a worthwhile gathering of professionals from the business events sector,” Peacock said. “M.I.C.E Con 2011 was well supported by the Department of Tourism, Governor of Cebu Gwendolyn Garcia and from the many delegates who I had the pleasure of meeting. The Filipinos made sure every attendee was treated with great hospitality and friendship.”

Along with several others, John was struck by the natural hospitality that greeted him once arrived at the Philippines. The day before the conference commenced, he was met by a lively welcoming reception of singers and musicians at the airport, and then treated to a fabulous networking lunch at the Imperial Palace Waterpark Resort and Spa before visiting the ‘Dancing Inmates’ at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.

John and his several international colleagues were delighted by the welcome given to them by the conference organisers and the local meetings industry participants.

John was excited to be involved in such an impressive event.

The conference affirms that the Philippines remains a strong player in the business and events industry. Although there needs to be more physical investment in world-class event facilities across the country, the M.I.C.E.CON demonstrated a top quality meetings industry, exemplified by the modern city of Cebu.

In the long term, there is much potential for the Philippines to rise and lead the sector into prominence in Asia.

John recommends those interested in business and events to attend the next conference which will be held in Davao during February 2013. He recommends anyone who visits the Philippines to experience the beautiful province of Cebu.
