A school in Bicol is vying for the 2014 School District Award in Reading, thanks to books donated by a Filipino-Australian group called Adhika.

On 20 April (Easter Sunday), Josie Musa and her family visited the Adhika Library in Bicol to formally turn over the donation of children's books, educational toys and two desktop computers from Adhika, Inc., a non-profit association made up of Filipino-Australian media members.

Musa, founder and overall coordinator of the group, conducted a reading session using the activity books recently donated (see photos).

The school teachers reported that because of the library, the school is now listed among the top ten elementary schools in the district as high achievers in reading.

The school is also a candidate for the School District award in Reading.

This was the second round of book donations from Adhika. The previous batch, more than 10 balikbayan boxes in total, were sent to Bicol two years ago.

While in the Philippines, Musa also organised a feeding program for the kids (see photos), donated four LBC boxes full of children's clothes, canned goods, powder milk, rubber shoes, slippers, towels, bed sheets, used and new clothing to indigent families in Barangay Caraycayon, Tigaon, Camarines Sur.

Adhika, Inc. is made up of Filipino-Australian media, predominantly radio broadcasters, including Radio Adhika, Radio Agila, Radio Dalisay, Radio Sandigan and InLife Magazine (Albert Prias).
