Next week, more than 100 events will be held around Australia to celebrate International Women’s Day.

From photography exhibits to breakfasts and luncheons, to performances and film festivals, March is the month to celebrate all things Eve.

Last year Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton headlined the celebration in the US and Australia has its own set of local celebrities and top female executives who will come together to help empower their peers.

In Sydney, the “Branch of Olive” photography exhibit will run until March 10 at the PhotoNet Gallery in Fairfield. Then there’s the clothes swap in and around the city until the end of March via www.opportunityswap.org.au. Near Bondi Beach, the historic Coo-ee Aboriginal Art Gallery will feature art by female indigenous artists.

Still keeping with the artistic theme, film buffs can go to the Dendy Cinemas in the Quay or the Sydney city library at Customs House to watch short films by the Women in Film & Television (WIFT) group.

For those keen on career mentoring, there’s a breakfast forum on Monday at the Westfield Centre in the Sydney CBD. At the forum, three business leaders will discuss diversity in the workforce – a critical issue in a country like Australia where the population comes from various backgrounds.

In Melbourne, there are similar leadership events being held. On Monday, there’s a breakfast series at the Park Hyatt with women chief executives while on Lonsdale Street, there’s an exhibit celebrating 100 years of the Queen Victoria Women's Centre.

And if you don’t have time to go to any of the events, there’s a webinar at lunchtime Monday (March 7) organised by the Life Institute. Discussion centres on building career resilience, particularly on juggling work and family needs, and coping with a stressful workload.

Meanwhile, the official International Women’s Day website lists only one Philippine-based event. Sponsored by the Department of Energy and Natural Resources, the event focuses on how women can help tackle climate change and how to best manage all kinds of risks associated with natural disasters.
