Aprille Lim

As Miss Bicolandia- Australia 2007, 22-year-old Aprille Lim was meant to join the Miss Philippines-Australia pageant last year. But modelling commitments in the Philippines meant she had to wait until this year. It’s not so bad according to her as she competes “a year older,  a year wiser with another year of life experience under [her] belt.

“Participating in pageants is always a self enhancing experience. It’s about knowing yourself, believing in yourself and improving yourself. It’s also about gaining more self confidence and being a role model for others and affecting people in positive ways.”

Aprille is finishing her final year of law at Macquarie University. As a model and aspiring actress, it’s not surprising that she plans on specialising in either media and entertainment law or international law. She says, “I think with a degree like law its always important to have a creative outlet and that’s what modelling, acting and tv presenting are for me.”

Born in Manila, her family came to Australia when she was six months old. “I went to an all Australian school so I considered myself to be very much Australian,” she says. “It wasn’t until I was 14 that I was able to really appreciate the Filipino side of me after my first trip there and I’ve been travelling back and forth ever since.

“I love the really relaxed laid back beach culture of Australia yet at the same time, I love the fast paced cosmopolitan nature of Makati. Although both worlds are so different, there’s a real beauty about feeling at home in both places and I guess that’s what makes me proud to be Filipino-Australian.”

Catch Aprille Lim competing at the Miss Philippines-Australia 2009 pageant, which is part of the 21st Filipino Fiesta in Sydney on Sunday 18 October at the Fairfield Showground, Bossley Park. For more information visit The Philippine Australian Sports & Culture Inc.
